March 14: Why?

Romans 6:16-23, John 3:16-19

Jesus forgave us when we were still His enemies. Forgiver is who He is. He took our sin on Himself because He is the only One who has the authority to rescue us from it.

But why?

I know a person small-

she keeps ten million serving-men

who get no rest at all!

She sends’em abroad on her own affairs,

From the second she opens her eyes-

One million Hows, two million Wheres,

and seven million Whys!

Rudyard Kipling, I Keep Six Honest Serving Men

If we consult our inner four year old, we will ask why? Why did Jesus forgive our sin?

“Now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification, and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord,” the Apostle Paul wrote.

He loved us and wanted to free us from certain death, so that we could have a place in eternal life.

He desired for all of us to be saved and made whole. That’s why.

And once we have been made whole, we will be able to love Him in return, with a whole heart, a whole soul, a whole mind, and a whole strength. We will dig into these in the weeks to come!

Are you free?

Do you live each moment like you are an eternal citizen of an eternal kingdom? What can you change to begin living for eternity today?
