March 18: Let Fly the Arrow

Read Deuteronomy 5:24-33

When the Lord gave the people the Law and the Ten Commandments, they heard Him!

They also heard their own hearts quaking. They pleaded with Moses to be their mediator, promising still to hear and to do all that the Lord commanded.

The Lord commended them. He is looking for hearts like this- hearts that not only hear Him but also obey!

The Lord unites our hearts, bringing together the materials of our mind, will, and emotions. Then, the Lord does the painful whittling of creating something useful from our hearts. Finally, the Lord looks smilingly on the end result: a useful tool in His hand.

Perhaps He has made our hearts into a pen, with which He will make known His Word. Perhaps He has fashioned our hearts into arrows which He will use to smite His enemies and carry His messages. In either case, it is our hearts that He desires to use, hearts completely lined up with His will, surrendered to Him.

“Oh, that they had such hearts always, to fear Me and to keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them!” the Lord exclaims.

He knows that joining in His work is what is best for us. Do we?

What work has God invited you to participate in that you are resisting?
