March 28: Purified

Read 1 Peter 1:22-25, Psalm 12:5-8

My parents recently gifted me with a Reverse Osmosis filter for my drinking water.

When we installed it under the sink, I was surprised at how many filters the water actually passes through. The filtration purifies the water of everything except for pure H2O.

Reverse osmosis water is so pure that I decided to get an optional filter that puts good nutrients back into the water.

Once the the Lord restores our souls, bringing to life what was once dead and striking a fire where before there was none, what is it good for? What does one do with a restored soul?

Peter wrote, “Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart.”

The Lord’s fire cleanses our souls of the defilement of sin so that we can submit to what we’ve heard from Him and unfeignedly love others. Our souls were restored so that we could worship God and love our neighbor.

Peter went on to qote Isaiah, “All flesh is like grass.” How quickly we perish and fade! However, when our souls are quickened by His Word, they last forever.

Allow Him to cultivate love in your restored soul. Practice the love now that you will enjoy in eternity.
